I hope you are enjoying the look and feel of the new Songs of Freedom Television website. Getting started on this topical video jukebox page I thought the best thing to do was to go back to the source and share live performances from shows celebrating the life and music of Woody Guthrie. The first video offering picks up a machine that kills fascists, points it at them and declares boldly that they are bound to lose! Second on the list is Phil Ochs’ tribute to Woody, as he was Bound for Glory. The Great Dust Storm sites an American tragedy about circumstance and what happens when decisions using land and resources have been unwise, something we see in our country and the world today. And then there is “Mean Talkin’ Blues.” Something about a guy who takes pleasure in the pain of others, hates unions and anything that is planned or organized. Remind you of anyone?

The collection of videos you will see here will grow and change over time, as will the musical recording links. I hope you enjoy them. Let us know what you think at joel@singfreedom.org.

Tune in…and don’t tune out!

Gun Violence and Society

Here are two videos looking at this issue. One is the perspective of the 911 worker who answers the phone assisting in tragic events. The piece is written and performed By “Jazz Poet Extraordinaire” Ken Jazzo.

The second is a look from within the mind of the alienated soul who does the killing. The tune will be familiar to you as it is the outcome.
